Book Review: Stress-free Health Management
Haim, Jenetta. (2014). Stress-free health management: A natural solution for your health. Bloomington, IN: Balboa Press.
When faced with reviewing books relating to stress management and natural therapies there can be some degree of scepticism involved as many texts tend to tout the adage that their way is the only way to health and well-being. Stress-free health management: A natural solution to your health by Jenetta Haim does not fit this mould.
Jenetta Haim is a natural therapist with more than thirty years of experience in naturopathic nutrition, hypnotherapy, NLP, Reiki healing, stress management, meditation, and other natural modalities. She resides in Greystanes, Australia and has been empowering people to embrace positive lifestyle changes for decades.
At just under 150 pages, the text offers readers a brief, yet insightful overview of various techniques, modalities and health issues with the aim of empowering the reader with knowledge to make informed decisions about their wellbeing. It is particularly empowering to see Haim comment that “it has taken years for you to arrive at this state? there are no magic wands for them to disappear overnight” (p. xii). It is this underlying theme that runs throughout the book. The author encouragers her readers to look at the material within the book to become better informed about themselves and their options.
The book is divided into chapters and appears, to some degree be, in alphabetical order. There are two distinct categories — natural therapy modalities and health issues. It is important to remember whilst reading this book that it is not offering solutions, it is providing the reader with additional information to, firstly have a better understanding of what might be happening for them and secondly, offer them avenues of treatment to explore further — empowered to ask the questions of professionals on their journey to better health and wellbeing.
Jenetta Haim provides information on different health concerns and natural approaches to remedy however does not discount the role of traditional medicine. This is a refreshing and mature approach to health and wellbeing as often both sides of the healthcare spectrum can discount the role and place of the other.
Often people see natural therapies and the world of prescriptions medication as far apart?if we can work hand in hand, the collaboration of the two methods makes for an enlightened community and a more empowering health care system for us all (p65).
In this one, powerful statement the author really highlights her commitment to the health and well-being of others.
Stress-free health management: A natural solution for your health by Jenetta Haim is a concise text presenting readers with the power to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
